Air-to-air heat pumps in Nottingham
The East Midlands gets warm, dry summer spells, and loft conversions and top-floor bedrooms are where the heat builds. Homes in Nottingham on electric, oil or LPG heating are the ones most likely to benefit from an air-to-air heat pump.
We size every heat pump in Nottingham for a cold winter day, then check the cooling side is right for summer. Nottingham is one of the main towns we cover in Nottinghamshire, alongside Mansfield and Worksop. Postcode districts we cover here include NG1, NG3 and NG7.
Prices in Nottingham
In the East Midlands, our guide range for air-to-air heat pumps is £2,845–£10,995 for 2–5 rooms, including VAT. That sits a little below the UK middle, reflecting typical East Midlands labour rates. The biggest variables are the pipe route, access for the outdoor unit and the state of the consumer unit, all of which the survey settles. For reference, the Small home option in Nottingham (three or four rooms heated and cooled) usually comes to about £4,245–£7,145.

Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
Since 29 May 2025, England's permitted development rules allow larger outdoor units (up to 1.5 m³) and no longer require a 1 m gap to the boundary, provided the MCS 020(a) noise check is met. Listed buildings and pitched-roof installs still need permission.
If your home in Nottingham is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.
The survey
On a survey in Nottingham the engineer looks at room size, glazing, the route for pipes and drains, the electrics and where the outdoor unit can sit quietly, then the written quote follows. The free survey is where the real price is set: room measurements, pipe and drain routes, electrical checks and the outdoor unit position, all written into your quote.
