Air-to-air heat pumps in Romford
Many London homes are flats or tall terraces, where heat rises to the top floor and the bedrooms bear the brunt of a hot spell. Ask at your Romford survey whether the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant could apply to your home.
Homes in Romford on electric, oil or LPG heating are the ones most likely to benefit from an air-to-air heat pump. Romford lies roughly 14 miles from central London, and we cover it as part of London. Homes in RM1 are all within our coverage.
Prices in Romford
Our London guide price for air-to-air heat pumps is £3,895–£15,095 for 2–5 rooms, VAT included. That is above the UK middle, mainly because labour and access cost more in London. Concealed pipework, access equipment for high walls and any electrical work are what push prices towards the upper figure. On our London figures, the Small home option (three or four rooms heated and cooled) is about £5,845–£9,845.
Two rooms
Living room and main bedroom on one outdoor unit.
Small home
Three or four rooms heated and cooled.
Whole home
Five or more rooms, sized to replace the existing heating.
Prices are shown before any Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. The £2,500 air-to-air grant applies only to eligible homes in England and Wales, using an MCS-certified heat pump installed by an MCS-certified installer, who applies for the grant and deducts it from the price. We confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
Guide prices show VAT at 20%. HMRC treats most fixed air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps installed in homes as energy-saving materials, zero-rated until 31 March 2027 when we supply and fit them. If your installation qualifies, your quote shows 0% VAT and a lower price. Servicing, repairs, cleaning and controls are charged at 20%.
Planning and permissions
For most houses in Romford, the outdoor unit is permitted development if it passes the MCS 020(a) noise check (37 dB(A) or less at the nearest neighbouring window) and stays within the size and number limits. We run that check on survey.
If your home in Romford is replacing fossil fuel or electric heating, and no gas, oil or LPG boiler stays in use, an MCS-certified air-to-air heat pump may qualify for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, which the MCS-certified installer claims and deducts from the price.
The survey
Surveys in Romford cover heat gain, pipe routes, electrics, access and noise to the nearest neighbour, so surprises on the day are rare. A survey in Romford usually takes one to two hours. We measure the rooms, check the walls and the consumer unit, agree the outdoor unit position with you and photograph the pipe routes.
