Home air conditioning in Porthmadog
Exposed coastal sites in North Wales call for outdoor units placed out of the wind and salt spray where possible. Porthmadog sits around 21 miles from Bangor, Gwynedd, inside our Gwynedd area. Postcode districts we cover here include LL49.
Rooms and systems
In Porthmadog, the indoor unit usually goes on the original house wall inside the conservatory. Where a room in Porthmadog has deep cornicing or a picture rail, a console keeps the walls above it clear. Homes in Porthmadog on electric, oil or LPG heating are the ones most likely to benefit from an air-to-air heat pump. For a home cinema in Porthmadog, we place the indoor unit so airflow stays away from the screen and seating.
For a single hot bedroom or living room, a wall-mounted split is usually the simplest answer. Two to four rooms often suit a multi-split on one outdoor unit, while a ducted system hides everything except the grilles. Design-led units, slim floor consoles and concealed ducted systems are all options where a standard white wall unit would look out of place.
Guide prices in Porthmadog
Guide prices here, including VAT, start with a multi-split at £2,295–£7,295 for 2–4 rooms; a repair is £140–£1,195 and a service £90–£175 per system visit. Installations are fixed in writing after a free survey; visits are priced before we come.
Planning and permissions
In Wales, outdoor units of up to 1.5 m³ that meet MCS 020a noise limits are usually permitted development on houses; listed buildings need consent, and in conservation areas a unit cannot go on a wall or roof facing a road. Leaseholders in Porthmadog usually need the freeholder's consent for anything fixed outside, and blocks of flats often need planning permission for outdoor units.
Porthmadog is in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme area, so eligible homes replacing oil, gas, LPG or electric heating may be able to get £2,500 off an air-to-air heat pump, as long as no fossil-fuel boiler stays in use. An MCS-certified installer must claim it; we confirm eligibility, and which installer applies, before you commit.
